The tools you need to succeed.

The Healthcare Technologies of the Future

Here at AppClinic, we’re always looking out for the next big thing in healthcare technology - it’s our specialty, after all. From manikins to simulations to VR, the field of healthcare technology is as vast and varied as it is dynamic. And like all technologies, it evolves at a rapid pace! To help you keep up with the latest and greatest in healthcare and simulation tech, we’ve rounded up some of the recent developments in the field and compiled them below. Read on to find out what’s been going on in healthcare technology:

A 21st Century School of Medicine

Storied healthcare provider Kaiser Permanente has announced the opening of a new School of Medicine in 2020 with an emphasis on training future physicians in “data-driven care.” The campus will have a Medical Education building equipped with collaboration boards, web conferencing, AR, VR, and 3D tech, as well as a Simulation Center that allows students to participate in simulated longitudinal clinical experiences. These experiences will include the use of electronic health records and communication opportunities with both colleagues and patients, equipping students with critical experience in navigating the data-driven realities of contemporary healthcare settings. Virtual Reality You Can Feel

FundamentalVR, provider of VR surgery training simulations, has recently announced the addition of advanced haptic feedback gloves to its training system. The haptic technology will allow students to feel the shape, weight, movement, and even texture of three-dimensional objects in the VR simulation. The gloves can also be paired with their haptic arm device, which can be used to simulate the use of tools. This allows the virtual reality simulation to go beyond a simple visualization of a surgery, adding tactile feedback that will help to develop transferable muscle memory. Learn more here.

Medical Applications of 3D Printing

Along these same lines, 3D Systems has recently begun offering a service called Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP) that combines 3D-printed anatomical models with AR/VR simulations to give surgeons and medical students a holistic simulated experience. The VSP services offered by 3D Systems have been used in more than 100,000 cases so far, including complex facial reconstructions and full facial transplants. This holistic approach is driven by the increasing complexity of operating environments - learn more here.
